Humans are the number one cause of wildfires in Oregon.

Many private forestland owners keep their land open for public recreation during the year, but close it during fire season to mitigate risk – see below for a list of those closures.

Please help us reduce wildfires by recreating responsibly and obeying all state fire regulations and landowner closures.

Visit Keep Oregon Green to find out how you can help reduce human-caused wildfires.

Join our cause to protect the forests we love from catastrophic wildfires.

Whose land is burning?

97% of the acres burned in Oregon in the last decade were from fires that originated in federal forests.

This is a result of management choices. While climate change plays a role, it is not the sole cause for recent catastrophic wildfires. Lack of management has left federal forests overstocked and riddled with dead, diseased and dying trees that pose a massive wildfire risk.

Private lands, on the other hand, are actively managed to prevent wildfire through reduced fuel loads, good road access, and healthy forests.
